Are you after a Cam Walker in Greensborough, but need some more information to know if its the right option for you?
Here is some helpful information for your to make an informed decision about whether a Cam Walker is for you!
More commonly known as ‘moon boots’, they are used to limit movement and pressure around the affected foot and ankle. Essentially, we use CAM walkers to help patients recover faster from their injuries!
What is a CAM walker?
The ‘CAM’ in CAM walker stands for ‘Controlled Ankle Movement’ and acts very similar to traditional plaster casting. However, the benefit of a CAM walker is that it can be removed when showering or sleeping (depending on the injury). Furthermore, our CAM walkers can be easily loosened or tightened as swelling increases and decreases during the healing period.
What are CAM walkers used for?
CAM walkers are used for injuries to the foot and ankle that require immobilisation (no movement) to heal. It can be used for the following conditions:
- Non-displaced fractures
- Ankle sprains
- Achilles tear or rupture
- Stress reactions/fractures
All of our podiatrists at the Diamond Valley Foot & Ankle Clinic, Greensborough are qualified to properly fit CAM walkers to allow prompt healing and comfort. Along with helping in fitting the CAM walker (and teaching you how to put it on and off), we will discuss with you how to avoid further injuries and potential issues with wearing a CAM walker.
